Secret Chronicle
The Ashen Oath: After emerging from seclusion, You Ming secretly gathered Xuan Ming, Heibai Wuchang and other old comrades at a ruined shrine to swear a blood oath: overthrow the Shen Dynasty together, then divide the realm between them. The pact appears nowhere in the official record — only a fragment survives in Xuan Ming's late-life notes.
The Rift: After the capital fell, Heibai Wuchang argued for preserving the old Shen Dynasty hierarchy to placate the nobility, while You Ming insisted on abolishing class altogether. The two clashed openly at the victory banquet and parted ways for good — Heibai Wuchang fled north to found the rival Mohui Empire.
Embers of Mohui and Shenying: After Mohui and Shenying fell, their scattered followers were not hunted down wholesale — the Tian Tong Laws explicitly pardoned commoners and held only the ringleaders accountable. Some who submitted later rose through the Spirit Political Academy's examinations to become the empire's next generation of officials, one hidden reason the Tian Tong Golden Age endured.
